In 1939 his son, Leonard Swanson, established a machine design department which focused on the development of advanced multiple station equipment, both indexing and continuous, linear and rotary configured.
Typical of the above efforts was Swanson developed equipment for the subminiature electron tubes used in the highly classified VT (proximity) fuse. The program began in 1943 and was automatically producing 440,000 fuses per day by the end of 1944.
These types of experiences led to Swanson's efforts in rationalizing a wide range of machine designs into its line of rotary and linear machine chassis first sold commercially in the early 1950's.
Swanson Systems is now in its fourth generation of family ownership and active management.
